Who We Are

CJVolk Associates is a team of professionals from multinational and national corporations, government agencies, financial institutions, and the non-profit sector, who have expertise in areas such as cash and risk management, reengineering, internal control, and e-commerce. We have built a solid reputation in implementing solutions that include Treasury Workstations, lockbox applications, proposal development, positive pay programs, as well as purchase card, credit card, and electronic presentment programs.

The collective corporate and consulting experience of CJVolk Associates provides us with special insight into corporate and organizational processing solutions. Similarly, our associates who have government services backgrounds give us a unique understanding of the economic and market factors facing governments today, with respect to treasury and cash management processing solutions. Our strength lies in the strategic alliances we have developed with technological and payments consulting groups, and providing our collective expertise in the treasury and cash management arenas, to develop customized solutions for our clients.

  Claudia J. Volk

Claudia, Principal and founder of CJVolk Associates, is a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) and an accredited ACH professional (AAP).  She has more than 25 years’ experience in treasury and cash management, municipal treasury operations, risk management, and public and SEC accounting.  She was responsible for treasury and accounts receivable management for the multi-billion dollar U.S. operation of an international telecommunications company.  Her experience includes identifying functional requirements for the installation of a commercial Treasury Workstation and managing investments, cash forecasting, daily cash flow, and banking and broker relationships for a local government with over $500 million in annual revenues.  Clients include major corporations, local governments, and for-profit and non-profit organizations and associations.  In addition, she has public accounting experience in both tax and audit with a Big Four public accounting firm.

Claudia has given national, state and regional presentations on a wide variety of topics including auditing treasury operations, web-initiated ACHs, Treasury Workstation selection and implementation, investment policy guidelines, e-Commerce best practices and cash management fraud detection. She is currently serving as adjunct faculty at Marymount University.

Claudia has a Master of Science degree in accounting from Georgetown University.  She is past president of the Greater Washington Association for Financial Professionals (GWAFP).  She is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Greater Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (GWSCPA).

Claudia has given national, state and regional presentations on a wide variety of topics including auditing treasury operations, web-initiated ACHs, Treasury Workstation selection and implementation, investment policy guidelines, and cash management fraud detection. She has served as adjunct faculty at Northern Virginia Community College and is currently serving as adjunct faculty at George Mason University.

Claudia was one of the top five scorers on the CCM exam. She is also a past president of the Greater Washington Association for Financial Professionals (GWAFP), and continues to serve on its board. In addition, she is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the Greater Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (GWSCPA).

 Susan Frederick

A senior associate, Susan is a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) with over 15 years' experience in finance and treasury. Most recently, Susan worked at Freddie Mac, first as a BearingPoint consultant on various finance-related projects, then as a director in Single Family Mortgage Operations. She has also worked at Capital One and Fannie Mae. She has extensive experience in fixed income investments, capital markets and cash management.

Susan's experience includes managing fixed income investments, managing middle office operations (trade confirmation, risk management and control), back office operations (trade settlement) and cash management. She has written board approved investment policies, documented procedures, and has also managed corporate pension assets (both defined benefit and defined contribution). She has implemented a Treasury workstation, managed banking relations and services, performed cash forecasting, and managed daily cash management functions at five Fortune 500 companies. She has also been involved in acquisitions and divestitures, performing due diligence field work and coordinating the integration of acquired companies.

Susan has an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. She also has an MA in French Literature from UT Austin and a BA in French and Russian from Oxford University, England. She is a member of the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) and is a past president of the Greater Washington Association for Financial Professionals (GWAFP).

 M.M. (Midge) Scelzo

Midge, a senior associate, has held executive positions in financial institutions managing multi-billion dollar portfolios and selling and implementing cash management and investment services to corporations, governments, and non-profit organizations. During the past 10 years she has served as a CFO to technology companies.

She has over 25 years’ experience in finance and cash management as banker, a CFO of technology companies and as a consultant to non-profits, government agencies, and technology companies.  In addition, she has led the development and implementation of an online information system and Internet payment system.  Her extensive experience includes strategic planning, budgeting, cash flow forecasting, merger and acquisition activities, raising capital, and managing employee benefits programs.

A certified cash manager (CCM), Midge received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Lafayette College and an Executive M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School. She is a board member of the Greater Washington Association of Financial Professionals (GWAFP) as well as the boards of various corporations and non-profits.

 Nancy L. Edwards

Nancy, a consulting associate, is a certified treasury professional (CTP) with more than 25 years’ treasury management experience.  She is currently treasurer of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) which operates the Ronald Reagan Washington National and Dulles International airports, and the Dulles Toll Road. Nancy is responsible for the treasury operations including cash forecasting, banking relations and services, broker/dealer relations, and portfolio management. MWAA’s portfolio averages $500 million to $1.5 billion in fixed income securities for operating and bond funds. In addition, she oversees the administration of the over $5 billion MWAA tax-exempt and taxable bond debt and the Passenger Facility Charge program.

Nancy moved to the Washington area in 1994 after serving nine years as treasury manager for Atlantic Gulf Communities and two years in operations at Southeast Bank. She became a CCM in 1989 and received permanent CCM designation in 1994.

Nancy has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Florida International University and an Executive M.B.A. from George Washington University. She is currently serving as vice president of the Greater Washington Association for Financial Professionals (GWAFP).

 Andrea Fezuk

A consulting associate, Andrea is a certified cash manager (CCM) with over 20 years' experience in finance and treasury. She is currently the controller of Telispark, Inc., a corporation that develops software for the mobile work force. She has extensive experience with disbursements and cash management, installing and upgrading accounts payable systems (PeopleSoft and Lawson), managing large accounts payable organizations, initiating company wide purchasing card programs, and developing and enhancing cash management processes. Her work experience has included telecommunications and software industries as well as national government contractors.

At Litton/PRC and at Teligent, Candy also administered corporate risk management programs and participated on merger and acquisitions teams, performing due diligence, financial modeling and coordination of the integration of acquired companies.

Candy has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from George Mason University. She is a member of the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and serves on the board of directors of the Greater Washington Association for Financial Professionals (GWAFP).

 Stuart T. Williams

Stuart, a consulting associate, has over 20 years' experience in treasury management, information technology and project management. A certified cash manager (CCM), his expertise is in leveraging his understanding of cash management and financial theory with a command of computer technology. His experience includes developing financial analyses from capital structure to dividend policy. He has introduced and expanded the use of computer technology in every project undertaken by combining strong financial, technical and project management skills.

Stuart's experience spans telecommunications, public utilities and banking. He is currently managing the project portfolio office of a multi-million U.S. corporation. Formerly, he was responsible for the banking relationships and cash management practices of a Fortune 500 corporation. He has also developed design specifications for the PeopleSoft treasury and finance modules. In addition, he used Microsoft Office and other software programs to integrate technology into treasury work processes, including procurement, cash management, accounts receivable and accounts payable. His expertise includes managing revenue and billing systems projects.

Stuart earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in classic civilizations with minors in both economics and computer science from Wooster College. He earned his M.B.A. in finance from the University of Denver. He is a former board member of the Greater Washington Treasury Association of Treasury Professionals (GWAFP) and is a current member of the Association of Financial Professionals.
